CARBON FIBER

Harness Satin Carbon Fiber

For millennia, satin weaves have been employed to create silk’s desirable drape and smooth, uniform surface. If you’re working with carbon fiber composites, a satin weave will allow you to readily shape intricate geometries. Owing to this, it stands to reason that satin weaves are not as stable as other weaves.
The most popular types of harness satin weaves are 4HS, 5HS, and 8HS. The sum of the tows that went over and under is what the number represents. The 4HS weave, for instance, involves crossing three tows over and one under. Meanwhile, there are four tows passed over and one passed under in 5HS. Seven tows crossed over and one went under in 8HS. Greater malleability and less stability accompany increased satin weave numbers.
